National theatre of Syldavia is probably the most Balkanic of the French-speaking companies. Its previous productions were based on texts from Boytchev, Dukovski, Neziraj, Stefanovski, Todorovic,.. This time it goes North with this new production, already seen in previous work in progress in Théâtre du Rond-Point Theatre in Paris as well as in Théâtre au Jardin in Montreuil. Respire ! est une variation en vingt-quatre tableaux où le personnage principal, invisible et omniprésent, est la mort. Elle vacille entre la compassion et le sarcasme devant la peur de l’homme face à sa fin, projetée ou possible. Elle propose une analyse nouvelle d’un monde envahi par l’insécurité intérieure, dans lequel les rites ancestraux inventés par l’homme face à la mort ne fonctionnent plus.

"Asja Srnec Todorović dresse un portrait drôle et méchant de nous-mêmes, de nos tentatives dérisoires pour "pisser dans la gueule de la Mort", par le crime, le sexe, l'aliénation ou la fuite. Avec la guerre et la mort, pour compagnes, la jeune dramaturge va à l'essentiel dans un savant mélange entre une dérisoire gravité et une insoutenable légèreté." (Le Matricule des Anges)

Asja Srnec Todorović est née en 1967 à Zagreb. Ses pièces ont été présentées en Croatie, en Allemagne, en Angleterre, ainsi qu'au Théâtre national de Bretagne par Christian Colin et à Gare au théâtre par Miloš Lazin, et l'une d'entre elles a reçu le prix de la meilleure pièce radiophonique de la BBC. Elle écrit également des scénarios et des romans.
